2-STROKE

In previous issues I have read about the two Marks and their eBay experiences. I have to admit they are not alone, my 900 sports a set of gauges purchased via the site but, more relevant to this page, stroker parts do quite often turn up on the site. I picked up a crankshaft for my mate John for £21.50 including postage. I know it is a bit of a risk but I was pleased to find I did in fact know the seller and it had been kept oiled up for the last 15 years. Our plan is either to use it as it is or send it away with another one to be rebuilt (two cranks are needed these days when you send them to Sweden). I have also failed twice to secure a new ‘old stock’ brake master cylinder - the first time it went for £128 and the second I was just £6 off the final £86 winning bid. Who was it that got them? Are you out there? As I write an engine and gearbox is at £90… I will report on how we go with the crank in future issues.

Please note I am no longer in Wales and have moved back to Nottingham. This means I have recovered MLT from my Dad's garage and once more am able to use the old girl and should make it to the next meeting. It has been good to get behind the wheel of MLT again but it has shown me I will have to be ordering a new exhaust in the near future as I detect a slight blowing - so a two-inch system will be the next step. I think also a winter engine strip down will be undertaken as the little-end noise is annoying me and I think the bearings may need resizing to alleviate the noise.

Nice to see Mike Thompson’s stroker on the front cover for the last issue of the magazine. I can assure you all that he did not tow the caravan behind with it! He tells me the car covered 1300 miles during their trip to Denmark with no problems and he picked up a few bits for it as well. They visited a two-stroke museum which had store rooms piled high with spare parts which enabled him to find the parts he needed to fit his wood-rim steering wheel. Glenn also took his Monte Carlo to the International meeting and came away with second prize in the two-stroke class. Well done to him. That’s it from me lets hope for a good two-stroke turnout at St Leonards!

Pete
