EMS Splash Out on Spares - 1999

The East Midland Saab (EMS) Splash Out On Spares III weekend was held on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th May at Holmepierre Pont in near Nottingham.

The overcast and wet nature of the weather could do nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of Saab fans from all over the world (well, as far as the Netherlands, anyway) who turned out in force to ensure the success of this third annual event.

Saab fans gathered from friday afternoon to trade or sell spares and all things Saab. Highgate Saabpart were in attendance to demonstrate their dual-pipe sports exhaust system and a set of their ten-spoke alloys on a sporty orange 96V4. Traders included Brian Butler of The Saab Sanctuary, Malbrad, JG Motors, and others.

The success of the event was ensured by the mix of Saab Enthusiasts selling and trading all manner of Saab parts from the boots of their Saabs.

Just as much interest was created by the Saabs in which people travelled to the event. Everything from two-strokes and three Sonnett III through 96V4s, 99s, to fantastic 900 Carlssons and 9000s to the latest models including a 9-5 Estate could been seen.

A wander around the event demonstrated the evolution of the Saab Marque over the last forty years or so. Even genetically modified Saabs were there such as a stretch 900 limousine!

If you didn't get the opportunity to go this year, make sure you make a note of Splash Out on Spares in your diary for early May 2000. This is definitely the Saab event to attend!

(Please note, EMS is an official branch of the Saab Owners Club of GB. This report is for the benefit of all Saab Enthusiasts - no matter which club(s) they belong to. If you are interested in Saabs, why don't you visit the Saab Owners Club aswell?)
