SMAC Silver Jubille Event 1999

The Saab Midlands Auto Club (SMAC) Silver Jubilee camping and caravan weekend was held on Friday 9th July to Sunday 11th July at Cosford Aerospace Museum at Cosford in Shropshire.

SMAC secured a fantastic venue for the weekend and someone at SMAC had been busy booking the weather, too! With hardly a cloud in the sky, the Saturday proved to be an uncharacteristic English scorcher!

Saab fans gathered from the Friday afternoon next to the Royal Air Force Museum where they complimented the excellent display of aircraft with an equally excellent display of aircraft-inspired road going "flying" machines.

Upon arrival, check in and pick up the SMAC 1974 Quiz - a silver jubilee quiz of 25 questions about Saabs and other matters of the day 25 years ago!

(I got the "silver jubilee score" of: 25% !! - but then 25 years ago I was only three years old!)

With the sun shining, the Saturday was a relaxed day to wander around, admire the many Saabs, of which two-strokes and 99 were particularly well represented, chat to their respective owners - and perhaps pick up a tip or two. There was also an opportunity to vote for your favourite Saab of each model - a tough choice!.

A big barbeque started off the activities for the Saturday evening where everyone joined together to talk and take part in the games that had been organised. I'm sure there was some serious betting going on with the horse-racing but I didn't have any time left to discover what it was all about.

I was only able to stay for the Saturday, but a big thank-you goes to Sue and Arthur and all at SMAC who made the event such a success, not least all of those who turned up with some great and varied Saabs!
